I've been approached many times about making natural makeup and have been looking for a truly all natural alternative to the one that I was using.
This can be used as a light foundation if you just need to get rid of shiny and red/uneven skin tones. If you need a heavier foundation, use the one that you currently use, and use this powder to set it. It keeps your makeup looking fresh all day, removes shine, blurs fine lines/wrinkles/age spots, and protects your face from the elements to prevent signs of aging.
Let's take a look at the ingredients!
Arrowroot Powder*, Cornstarch*, Kaolin Clay, Coconut Milk*, Cacao*, Tapioca Starch derived from Yucca Root*, Acacia Fiber*
EVERYTHING is organic except the clay (because it can't be)
Coconut Milk has high levels of Vitamin C which helps maintain elasticity and flexibility of skin. It is also rich in copper, and prevents wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots. It helps to provide moisture so the powder doesn't over dry the skin and over produce oil.
Cacao (yum chocolate!) blocks harmful free radicals in the body. It also protects the body against many diseases including premature aging. Cacao has a good amount of vitamin C and magnesium, which helps in protecting the skin and keeping it healthy.
Yucca & Acacia are natural ingredients that work to keep the ingredients from clumping.
Kaolin Clay is a gentler clay that helps to draw impurities out of the skin. It has natural absorbency properties and will soak up excess oils and stale sebum from the skin.
Arrowroot is used in the place of talc (gross) as a thickening agent, natural absorbent, and enables other active ingredients to penetrate the skin better. It provides the powder with a smoother/silkier feel. It helps to soothe irritated skin and is a natural healer of wounds, rashes, blemishes.
I shocked myself with this creation. Since I started using it, I've had less breakouts, my skin isn't oily half way through the day, and I don't even need to use a foundation underneath it anymore!
NOW! Some warnings.
1. Because this does not have any preservatives in it, you NEED to wash your makeup brush more frequently as bacteria will grow much faster. I know, I know. Washing our makeup brushes is the most grueling chore ever yet it NEEDS TO BE DONE. I would recommend once a week. Are you thinking of the last time you washed your brush? Do it.
2. The shelf life is about a year and a half on this bad boy due to the lack of preservatives. It has a sifter cap to keep your dirty brush from contaminating the rest of it so it will last longer.
3. Like all makeup, if you have a low quality makeup brush, excess powder will fall off. Invest in yourself and invest in a good makeup brush. I personally still use the Bare Mineral Kabuki brush but I'm sure there are plenty great/affordable ones out there.
